Do We Need Icons?

What do you think, do we need icons (I am counting idols, symbols and such things). As you are aware that subscribers of sanata dharma (aka Hinduism) have lots of symbols, idols, but is it not that Vedas says HE does not have form, shape and order. Then how come we have so many idols?

Well let me guess. Probably it made to associate and understand clearly. Not clear? OK lets take an example. Let go back to few years.

Pre 95's:

We have MS Products mainly DOS based and have applications like Wordstar, Lotus123 wordpad etc. To make a heading in word start bold we need to prefix and suffix the contents like Clt KK

Clt KB. This implies that you need to have exact knowledge of commands. So since lesser number of people have understanding of applications, hence less number of subscriptions for these applications.

95's Onwards:

Microsoft came with the GUI based applications (say Windows 95 etc.) Now here you have all meaning full icons. On seeing the icons, you can understand what it is for (e.g Folder icon, by seeing that one can understand that this for keeping the documents as that is what we do with the physical folder). Now due to this, understanding increased and thus usage /Subscription.

Conclusion: Something similar would have happened in the past and have come up with the idea of icons / idols. May be due to this they might not have felt the need of any marketing department.
